Why you should visit Bornholm Island

Did you know that Bornholm island is the sunniest place in Denmark? The sunshine island as we call it has always been special for Danes, and most of us have made the pilgrimage there at least once, usually as part of a school trip. This was my second visit to the island and with its time warp, magical forests, medieval fortresses and glorious FOOD, it was just as idyllic as I remembered.

Bornholm is located in the Baltic Sea and is closer to Sweden than Denmark. This explains why locals speak with a funny, quite unique dialect. It's easy to get around the island. Renting a car is without doubt your best option for seeing everything on this list and more. But if that's not for you, you can always take the bus to the major villages or join day trips. The island is full of charming towns and villages, like Gudhjem, that are perfect for exploring. There's also plenty of beautiful scenery to enjoy, from the rocky coastline to the lush forest. And of course, no visit to Bornholm would be complete without trying some of the famous smoked herring - it's truly delicious!

Most people visiting Denmark stay in Copenhagen, and that’s such a shame. Bornholm island is one of the hidden gems that make Denmark so special. If you’re looking for a unique travel destination with beautiful nature

If you're planning a trip to Denmark, you definitely shouldn't miss out on Bornholm Island. It's one of the country's hidden gems, and it's just a short ferry ride from Copenhagen.

Bornholm is a great travel destination for those who love nature and outdoors. There are many hiking and biking trails, as well as stunning beaches. Gudhjem is a charming village located on the north coast of Bornholm. It's known for its beautiful views, quaint houses, and good restaurants.

So why not add Bornholm Island to your travel plans? You won't regret it, I promise.
